Managing Grandstream unified communications and networking deployments has never been easier, thanks to the Grandstream Device Management System (GDMS). This cloud-based solution empowers installers to take control before, during, and after deployment, providing a streamlined experience for configuration and management. With the recent integration of GWN.Cloud into GDMS, users can now manage an entire Grandstream portfolio deployment from a single account.

What is GDMS?

GDMS is a free, enterprise-grade and all-in-one platform that simplifies monitoring and maintaining Grandstream devices across multiple locations. It’s designed for system integrators and IT teams, offering a centralised interface to provision, monitor, troubleshoot, and manage Grandstream products.

If you’re ready to experience hassle-free network management, start by creating your free account at gdms.cloud.

This blog will provide an introductory overview of GDMS and explore how it’s transforming the way Grandstream solutions are managed.

How this one platform powers two systems to manage Unified Communications and Networking?

Once you log in to the Grandstream Device Management System (GDMS) portal, the platform provides access to distinct areas: Unified Communications (UC) and Networking. Switching between these sections is effortless—just click on the menu at the top left corner. Here’s what you can expect from each side:

Core functionalities and specifications of GDMS:

GDMS provides a secure, efficient, and scalable solution for businesses of any size. Let’s look at the key features and specifications that make GDMS an essential tool for device management:

1.  Network-based device management:

  • Devices Management: Manage network devices such as GWN access points, routers, switches and VoIP, PBX, and SIP devices from a centralised platform.Configuration & Real-Time Monitoring:
  • Configure devices, upgrade firmware and Monitor network, devices, and client activity in real-time for better oversight and control.

2. Security and Authentication:

  • Set up access policies including blacklist, whitelist, and time-based restrictions, supports various security protocols like WPA, WPA2, WPA3, WEP, and open networks, configure bandwidth rules for client access to optimize network performance and manage user roles and privileges for different devices within the network.

3. Wi-Fi performance optimisation:

  • Multiple optimisation Methods: Includes features like band steering, minimum RSSI, ARP Proxy, and IP multicast to unicast to optimise Wi-Fi performance.

4. Captive portals:

  • Customisable splash pages with built-in WYSIWYG editor for easy customisation of splash pages, multiple authentication methods, external captive portal and advertisement integration and real-time guest’s statistics and monitoring.

5. Reporting and Monitoring:

  • Real-Time Monitoring: Get live updates with real-time monitoring, generate reports and access to event logs for troubleshooting and audits.

6. Maintenance tools:

  • Diagnostic tools like ping, traceroute, and capture for troubleshooting issues, configuration and data backup to ensure data protection with scheduling firmware updates.

7. Enterprise Features:

  • There are no limits on the number of sites or devices and SIP accounts management.
  • 99.99% uptime: Hosted on AWS, ensuring high availability and reliability.
  • Bank-grade encryption: All data is encrypted with TLS from end-to-end, ensuring the highest level of security.
  • X.509 Certificate authentication: Adds another layer of security with certificate-based authentication.
  • Wi-Fi alliance Voice-Enterprise support: Ensures high-quality VoIP performance over Wi-Fi.
  • Mobile app: Access and manage devices on the go with the GDMS mobile app for iOS® and Android®.
  • Real-time Wi-Fi scan: Easily scan for available networks during deployment for quick setup.
  • URL access logs: Collect and manage URL access logs for better traffic and user monitoring.

Adding a device to GDMS networking:

To add a device, Navigate to Devices and click Add. Enter the device name, MAC address, and password. For routers, you can sync the local WAN configurations and assign existing SSIDs. Click add and the device will be automatically added to your GDMS account for monitoring and management.
There are three methods to add devices to the cloud:

    • Manual device addition: Locate the MAC address and password on the device or package or the bulk upload devices via CSV file upload.
    • Using the GWN application: Add the device via the GWN app.
    • Transfer AP control from local master: Only for GWN access points.

The Dashboard page provides general information that can be used to monitor GWN devices with Network topology page, Network Health Monitor, WAN speed test.

GDMS also offers Map and Floor plans features. The map lets administrators link GWN devices to specific locations, either manually or automatically using IP addresses. The floor plans feature helps deploy devices in optimal locations within a building, using an RF heat map preview to predict the best spots for GWN devices, including virtual GWN devices like access points or routers.

Adding a Device to GDMS Unified Communications:
For any business or organisation, people are the most asset. The way they collaborate, communicate, and work together plays a key role in driving success. That’s why the technology used to connect them should support and enhance their teamwork. This is where unified communications come in, providing a technological framework designed to boost efficiency, productivity, and collaboration.
